Tsembla (SWE/FIN) originates from Sweden. This is her first show in Helsinki. Her music is a skillful collage of psychedelic treatments, small melodies and unusual instrumentation.

Laineenkasperi is one of the most original names in Finnish hip-hop, though Kasperi's spectrum covers so much more, like doing sound design to contemporary dance pieces. His music is highly original and anarchistic in nature. at Koko, he collaborates with the sampler&noise whacko Akahiljane. "Who knows what's going to happen a lottery or a car crash or you join a cult", as Björk once put it.
CLICK HERE for a sneak peak to Laineenkasperi & Akahiljane at the rehearsal space making love to Yamaha SU series samplers.

Rank ensemble plays Shinji Kanki: Towards White.
Rank is a Helsinki-based ensemble devoted to new music and free improvisation. Their activities focus on improvisation as well as works from the contemporary music repertoire which include elements of improvisation, or otherwise expanded roles for the performers. Rank will perform a new composition by Shinji Kanki.

New mebers!!!

Hey,

Charm of Sound (CoS) is looking for new board members.
CoS was established in 1995 and has promoted new
and experimental sounds in Finland ever since. We do concerts, workshops,
consulting and hand out information & contacts about experimental music and
sound art.
more about us: http://www.charmofsound.org/about.html
concert history: http://www.charmofsound.org/past.html

COS BOARD?
Our board has currently gone through a re-make. We welcome new members
whole-heartedly.

In CoS, you can help sound art and new music establish itself in Finland, promote young artists, introduce pioneers to the public and have a good time while doing it.

WHAT WOULD I DO?
Board members help out with concert organizing, come up with ideas ("sound art for children? let's do a compilation LP? A CoS residency for someone?") and well, make it all happen. When we do an event, we might need: a poster/flyer, someone handing
them out, artist hosts, technical assistance, recording, promoting, selling tickets, cleaning up...Some stuff that just needs to be done and then there's some genuinely fun things like talking about german schlagers with some vietnamese sound artist 4am.

DO I NEED TO BE TREVOR WISHART OR EVEN KNOW WHO HE IS?
Since we promote new music & sound art, we need to know about new artists, if some pioneer has re-activated, if somebody's touring Scandinavia just now etc.

More important, we need people who can get things done and who we can trust. We operate with government/institutional funding, so one part of the routine is to figure out where to get cash to make our excellent ideas come true!

You don't have to speak Finnish or live in Helsinki, if you have ideas about creating CoS activity to a new city, that's great as well.

WHEN?
The "come and join us" meeting is Wednesday 21st of October 8.30pm at
Cafe Java, near Hakaniementori, Siltasaarenkatu 11.
If you can, please tell you're coming in advance: info at charmofsound dot org
And if you can't make it but are interested, please contact us/me.

Best,

Kimmo Modig
chairman

Charm of Sound autumn 2009

Hi people,

It's been a long time. We'll have at least three concerts during Dec2009-Feb2010,
with "focus Sweden" tagged on them. And we'll propably start looking for some
new board members very soon.
One of our members, AKAHILJANE, is doing a conceptual-smelling gig at Tehdasteatteri, Turku, next weekend, 19th Sep. Go check that out if you're around.
Our mighty ex-chairman, mr. Keränen, has quite a show coming, two in Helsinki (wed 16th Sep @ Ptarmigan, and 26th Nov @ Siltanen) and another one with together with the one and only Lasse Marhaug asTesticle Hazard in No Fun festival, Stockholm. Do check those out!
Kimmo Modig, the new chairman for CoS, was visiting Shinji Kanki at Silakkaradio some weeks ago. Here's a link for the show. There's some other good stuff also online there!

Kimmo was also curating experimental music & art for Flow festival a month ago at Flow Festival, Helsinki, together with Richard Widerberg(check out the link there about Dånk collective, cool stuff from Göteborg). YLE did some interviews of the exp. artists and people were really listening!

Info about the aforementioned gigs coming soon!

greetings from turku:
Day begins at Turku

Sounds from Kantis 15th Nov on-line

Hey-yo,

Two tracks from Akahiljane live set for download in the media section.
There's a nice review and some pics in this blog, aanella.blogspot.com. Hopefully we'll get some live tasters from Kuupuu&Jaska, Taneli Tuominen and The Hoopo as well. And never mind the distortion on those Akahiljane recordings...
